President’s Message

On behalf of the members of the Junior League of Charlottesville (JLC), welcome to our website. In recent years, our members voted to shift our community impact focus to Empowering Women through Mentorship. We want to help every woman in Charlottesville and the surrounding areas become her best self. If you are interested in working with us on a women’s empowerment initiative, please contact our Community Vice President for more information.

The JLC consists of over 200 women in various stages of their League careers working together to promote voluntarism, to develop the potential of women and to improve our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. We invite and encourage any woman interested in supporting this mission to join us in bettering our community.

Originally founded as “The University League” in 1932, the organization began to identify needs and make an impact within the community. In 1981, the League joined the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI). For 90 years, we have proudly served our community. To date, we have given over $1 million and nearly as many hours of service to the underserved in our area. You can visit Our History to learn even more.

We are proud to partner with other non-profits in our community through our projectsCommunity Partners program, and grants program. Please explore our site and discover more about our history of service to the local community. If you wish to get involved, I invite you to consider becoming a member, make a donation to help us further our mission, or join us for Tinsel Trail.

Thank you for your interest in the JLC.
