History

The Junior League of Charlottesville’s roots are grown from what used to be known as the University League, established in 1932. Just a handful of women initiated the community volunteer spirit that all Junior League of Charlottesville women honor today. We have impacted so many organizations in our community over the years all in keeping with our vision:

“We are an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of our members and community partners through voluntarism that positively impacts the families in our community.”

The below video features several founding mothers from the University League recalling how the Senior Center was started. The University League researched, funded, planned and manned the Senior Center until it became independent in 1965.
