Spring 2007 Community Grant Recipients
Albemarle Housing Improvement Program
The grant will be utilized to provide support for the Park’s Edge After school program. The program is provided at no cost to parents living in Park’s Edge which is an affordable rental property owned and operated by AHIP.
Arc of the Piedmont
The Arc helps to improve the lives of children and adults at risk for mental and developmental disabilities. The grant will be spent to purchase assistive devices that will allow clients to use computers and other electronic devices to help improve the client’s day-today independent living and social skills.
Ash Lawn Opera Festival
The grant will provide funding for the Kids Fest program. Kids Fest serves over 100 children annually and introduces at-risk children and youth to a live musical performance.
Children Youth and Family Services
The grant will help with the victims of child abuse program. VOCA provides counseling to abused children and their non-abusing family members.
Georgia’s Friends
The grant will be utilized to offer emergency financial assistance to women who are actively engaged in recovery programs for substance abuse.
Kids Lift Foundation
The grant will be spent to purchase new books for children ages newborn to 13 to be distributed during the holiday season.
Service Dogs of Virginia
The grant will be spent to help train a dog to serve with an autistic child. These dogs provide safety and improve the communication and behavior of those children affected.
